music city concierge association forms ‘a leg up’.

The Music City Concierge Association (MCCA) has formed ‘A LEG UP’, a 501(c)(3) charitable foundation where people can help Nashville’s first responders, healthcare workers, restaurant and hotel employees as well as anyone in the hospitality community who needs assistance. All donations are tax-deductible.

HOW ‘A LEG UP’ WAS BORN.
Members of the Music City Concierge Association have always been generous with their time and money. At their monthly member meetings, they passed a violin case around the room, collecting money for a different charity each month that was picked by a member whose name was pulled out of a hat. In Nashville tradition, this was called PLAY IT FORWARD. After a few years, the MCCA realized how important these donations were, and started matching them dollar for dollar and later even tripling them. The recipients were elated and the group felt a deep sense of satisfaction. Then something happened that no one expected. One of their long-standing and most loved members was seriously injured when a pickup truck hit the airport shuttle he was riding. His prognosis was not good. He might never walk again and would probably lose his leg. But his will was strong and his determination unwavering. After numerous surgeries and over a year of therapy doctors were not only able to save his leg but he went from being wheelchair bound to a walker, from a walker to crutches, from crutches to a cane, and as they say the rest is history.
That is when the Board of the MCCA realized that there was a bigger calling. Not only would they give to charities monthly, but they wanted to help others in the hospitality community who were in need of assistance any time. To honor their unstoppable member, they decided the foundation should be called A LEG UP’, and in December of 2018, the foundation was introduced to the members of the Music City Concierge Association.
One of the worst tornadoes recorded hit Nashville on March 2-3, 2020 and shortly after that, the COVID-19 pandemic sent the world into a lock down. Nashville is a hospitality driven city and the city was devastated. People needed help more than ever. A LEG UP applied and was approved to become a 501(c)(3) so all donations could be tax deductible. This allowed the foundation to receive larger donations from businesses as well as individuals.
